According to the Public Relations Department of the Quran and Hadith Research Institute، Hojjat al-Islam wa al-Muslimin Sayyid Ali Qazi Askar, Custodian of the Holy Shrine of Hazrat Abd al-Azim al-Hasani (peace be upon him), expressed his condolences in a message following the passing of Grand Ayatollah Shobeyri Zanjani (may God sanctify his soul), one of the Shi'a maraji' al-taqlid (sources of religious emulation).

The text of the condolence message from the Custodian of the Holy Shrine of Hazrat Abd al-Azim al-Hasani (peace be upon him) is as follows:

In the Name of God, the Most High

“Indeed, we belong to God, and indeed to Him we shall return.”

The passing of the distinguished and steadfast religious authority, the jurist of the Ahl al-Bayt of Infallibility and Purity, the devoted and profound scholar, and the ascetic leader who held the welfare of the people dear—Grand Ayatollah Shobeyri Zanjani, may God sanctify his soul—has caused profound sorrow and grief.

I myself benefited for many years from the blessings of his knowledge, guidance, and noble character. Throughout his blessed life, this eminent scholar trained numerous distinguished students in various fields of scholarship. Without doubt, his passing constitutes a great loss for Islam and the religious scholarly community.

I extend my deepest condolences and sympathies on this great bereavement to the sacred presence of the Wali al-Asr—the Master of the Age, may our souls be sacrificed for the dust beneath his feet—to the Grand Maraji' al-Taqlid, the Islamic seminaries, the distinguished religious scholars, his esteemed and learned sons, and all the bereaved members of his family. I beseech Almighty God to grant his bereaved family beautiful patience and abundant reward.
