Hojjat al-Islam wal-Muslimeen Dr. Shahriari: Knowledge without ethics deviates from the path of human-building

Hojjat al-Islam wal-Muslemeen Dr. Hamid Shahriari, Head of the SAMT Organization, emphasized the necessity of an integrated approach in Islamic sciences and stated: “Excessive specialization in Western sciences has caused scholars to remain ignorant of other fields of knowledge, whereas in the Islamic tradition, scholars had a comprehensive vision; they were simultaneously builders of individuals and architects of society.”

According to the Public Relations Office of the Quran and Hadith Research Institute, Hojjat al-Islam wal-Muslemeen Dr. Hamid Shahriari, speaking at the opening ceremony of the conference on Islamic Human Sciences titled “The School and Conduct of the Prophet (pbuh): Human-Building and Society-Building Islamic Human Sciences,” held at the Quran and Hadith Research Institute, stressed the human-building essence of the human sciences and said: “Islamic human sciences must be human-building and society-building. This is the true nature of human sciences in the school of the Great Prophet (peace be upon him and his family).”

Comparing the Islamic and Western scientific systems, the Head of the Organization for Researching and Composing University Textbooks in Islamic and Human Sciences (SAMT) added: “In our Islamic tradition, we had scholars who were experts in all disciplines and were capable of both human-building and society-building. However, in Western universities, due to the fragmentation of sciences, each individual is confined to a single specialized field.”

He pointed out the drawbacks of excessive specialization, saying: “Although this approach has advantages, it also has disadvantages that leave the scholar ignorant of other areas of knowledge.”

The Secretary-General of the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought emphasized the necessity of an integrated approach and stated: “If we wish to pursue human-building and society-building in the school of the Prophet of Islam (pbuh) and in Islamic human sciences, we must adopt the integrated method.”

He enumerated the main axes of Islamic human sciences as follows:

  1. Human dignity, which must be manifested in Islamic law and ethics;
  2. Education and training for human-building;
  3. A just economic system;
  4. Attention to social justice.

In conclusion, the Head of SAMT stated: “If we do not pay attention to the comprehensive structure of Islamic human sciences, we may say things that are incompatible with the environment, social justice, or Islamic ethics.”

It is noteworthy that the opening ceremony of the sixth conference on “Islamic Human Sciences, Research, and Technology” under the slogan “The School and Conduct of the Great Prophet (pbuh): Human-Building and Society-Building Islamic Human Sciences” was held on Saturday, December 6, 2025 (15 Azar 1404), with speeches by Ayatollah Reshad, Hojjat al-Islams Dr. Saeidi Rowshan, Dr. Berenjkar, Dr. Lakzaei, Dr. Shahriari, and Dr. Bahrami, in the presence of the heads of member centers of the Assembly of Islamic Human Sciences Research Institutes, organized by the secretariat of the Assembly in cooperation with the Quran and Hadith Research Institute, both in-person and virtually.
