Hojjat al-Islam wal-Muslimeen Dr. Berenjkar: Realization of Islamic Civilization Depends on Islamic Human Sciences

Hojjat al-Islam wal-Muslimeen Reza Berenjkar emphasized at the opening of the 6th Conference on Islamic Human Sciences: “Without Islamic human sciences that theorize based on the Quran and Sunnah, achieving the Prophet’s (pbuh) goals in human-building and society-building is impossible.”

According to the Public Relations Office of the Quran and Hadith Research Institute, Hojjat al-Islam wal-Muslimeen Dr. Reza Berenjkar, President of the Quran and Hadith Research Institute and the second speaker at the opening session of the 6th Conference titled “The School and Conduct of the Prophet (pbuh): Human-Building and Society-Building Islamic Human Sciences,” held at the Institute’s conference hall, began by sending salutations upon the Prophet of Mercy (pbuh&hp) and the martyrs of the Islamic Revolution. He stated: “Our aim is to commemorate the 1,500th anniversary of the birth of the Prophet of Mercy (pbuh&hp) and to honor those who strove and sacrificed their lives for the lofty goals of the Great Prophet (pbuh&hp) and the divine religion, including the martyrs of the Islamic Revolution and the Imam of the Martyrs.”

Referring to the slogan of this year’s conference, he said: “The slogan of Research Week for the Assembly of Research Institutes this year is: ‘The School and Conduct of the Great Prophet (pbuh&hp): Human-Building and Society-Building Islamic Human Sciences.’”

Quranic Foundations of Human-Building and Society-Building Citing verses of the Quran and narrations from the Ahl al-Bayt (as) regarding the sublime goals of the Prophet’s mission, he said: “There are numerous verses in this regard. The first is verse 2 of Surah al-Jumu‘ah: He is the One who sent among the unlettered a Messenger from themselves, reciting to them His verses, purifying them, and teaching them the Book and Wisdom, although they were earlier in manifest error.﴿ This verse mentions purification (tazkiyah), education, the Book, and wisdom as the objectives of the Seal of the Prophets (pbuh&hp).”

He continued: “The second verse is verse 25 of Surah al-Hadid: We sent Our messengers with clear proofs and sent down with them the Scripture and the Balance so that people may uphold justice.﴿ This verse also addresses society and its construction.”

Analyzing the two verses, he stressed: “These verses point to two dimensions: human-building and society-building. One dimension is purification and learning through education and training—i.e., the transcendent human being; the second is law, the Book, and the Balance for establishing justice (qist).”

Professor Berenjkar added: “The transcendent human is a knowledgeable and refined person, and the transcendent society is one governed by sublime laws aimed at implementing justice and equity. Implementing justice itself provides the ground for the education and purification of people in a transcendent society.”

Emphasizing the necessity of Islamic human sciences, he said: “To realize the ideal human being and society, we need expert work, institution-building, and planning in fields such as economics, management, law, psychology, and sociology.”

Explaining the role of human sciences, he stated: “Human sciences serve as the software of a civilization and the tool for exercising authority in society. Technical and engineering sciences merely assist the paths that human sciences determine within a civilization.”

Criticizing conventional human sciences, he said: “If we want the school and conduct of the Great Prophet (pbuh&hp) in human-building and society-building, we need human sciences—but human sciences compatible with the lofty goals of this great school, i.e., Islamic human sciences that theorize based on the teachings of the Book and Sunnah.”

In conclusion, the President of the Quran and Hadith Research Institute noted: “Islamic human sciences research institutes must design and solve the problems of the Islamic system based on Islamic goals and the school of the Great Prophet (pbuh&hp). If we do not perform our work correctly, the Islamic civilization will not be fully realized.”
